Police Operations

Indianapolis: Nine people were arrested, according to Indiana State Police. A police operation in Indianapolis dismantled a sizable, illegal spectacle, often known as a street takeover, that featured unlawful street racing and spinning.

Street racing, takeovers of public spaces, and spinning have reportedly become a national trend. This has caught the attention of law authorities, according to Indiana State Police. Law Enforcement is targeting these unauthorized gatherings all across the Indianapolis region. Over the past year, state police and the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department have reported making more than 40 arrests. They recovered more than 80 stolen automobiles.

Police Raid

On March 4, police raided a private parking lot on Indianapolis' west side at 34th and Lafayette Road. This is where a sizable, illegal gathering of cars was taking place. According to authorities, the owner of the parking lot did not give authorization for the event. He also admitted to spending more than $60,000 recently on repainting and resurfacing his parking lot. His lot has since suffered significant damage from spinning and other car spectacles common to sideshows.

At the spinning event on March 4th more than 100 vehicles, according to state police, were there. Bystanders apparently put themselves in unsafe situations while attempting to touch or record spinning autos or cars performing doughnuts. Cars were also unlawfully obstructing roadways and parking spaces.

State police descended upon the unlawful assembly, and deployed helicopters to assist in pursuing automobiles that tried to flee.

While law enforcement tightens down on these sideshows and illegal street racing throughout Indianapolis, police said investigations into these illegal gatherings are ongoing. The bust on March 4th is expected to lead to additional arrests, according to police.
