The Law Office of Mark Nicholson welcomes appellate attorney Victoria Casanova.
Victoria Bailey Casanova is a 2003 graduate of the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law. She was named to the Order of the Barristers and was one of four finalists in the school’s Moot Court competition. While in her second year of law school, Victoria and her partner won the Evan A. Evans Constitutional Law Moot Court Competition, held annually at the University of Wisconsin Law School. The following year, Victoria and her two partners were regional finalists in the Texas Young Lawyers Association National Trial Competition. She was the first person in the school’s history to graduate with an Advocacy Skills concentration.
Victoria is admitted to practice in all Indiana state courts, as well as the Supreme Court of the United States, the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, and the United States District Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of Indiana.
In her almost 20 years in practice, Victoria has made a name for herself as one of the preeminent appellate attorneys in the State of Indiana. While she has represented clients in trial-level criminal and family law cases, and in seeking post-conviction relief, it is as an appellate attorney that Victoria has found her passion and her true calling. Having represented hundreds of clients in cases ranging from misdemeanors to those where her clients were sentenced to death, Victoria knows that no one should have to stand alone against the power and might of the government.
Due to her expertise in substantive criminal law and procedural matters, Victoria is frequently sought out by other attorneys to consult on how to best represent their own clients. Because she believes in giving back to her community and the legal profession, Victoria regularly gives seminars for other attorneys on a wide range of subjects – from family law to criminal sentencing to appellate practice and everything in-between.
Time and again, Victoria’s exceptional work and commitment to her clients have been recognized by her colleagues and peers. In 2010, Victoria was selected out of all the attorneys at the Marion County Public Defender Agency to receive the Marc Emery Award in recognition of her exceptional service as a public defender and her commitment to excellence in providing indigent legal services. In 2018, the Indiana Public Defender Council honored Victoria by awarding her the Gideon Award – the highest award a public defender in Indiana can receive from her peers – in recognition of her zealous advocacy on behalf of indigent Hoosiers accused of committing a crime.
Victoria looks forward to being of service to you or your loved one. She will put her vast knowledge and experience to work in securing the best possible outcomes for her clients. Victoria also welcomes the opportunity to collaborate with or advise other attorneys looking to give their own clients the best representation possible.
